As some communities across the 705 continue to wait for power to be restored after last weekend’s ice storm, we have been posting updates from all of the hydro companies. Yesterday, we relayed a story from the OPP that was posted to social media.
The story sparked dozens of responses from our readers. Here are just some of the comments we received.
I work at a hotel and I can tell you that there are a mass amount of hydro workers (from all over) up here trying to restore power. They leave at 6am and come back at 11pm and do it again the next day. They are doing everything they can! People are so cruel and judgemental these days. Jeez
Not to mention all the out of town tree services here working as well day and night.
That person should be kissing their butts..what is wrong with you?
If they were in my neighborhood I would bring them coffee and food and praise them for the work they are doing Be safe every one
Sending gratitude to all the workers helping the community during this stressful time.
Some people are so nasty Theses worker are working long hours in very terrible weather conditions they should be thanked
People are obviously super frustrated by the lack of power and heat. However people should be more prepared than they are unfortunately and the Hydro Workers are working as fast and safely as they can.
We sent the comments to Hydro One and they said the kindness of residents helps to keep them motivated as they race to return power.
“Our crews are tremendously passionate about work they do and these kind, supportive messages continue to fuel them as restoration continues,” Hydro One replied.
Many businesses across the 705 also stepped up to fuel workers with hot meals. These are just some of the fabulous companies who provided food to both workers and residents who have been without without power.

And what could be more Canadian than saying thank you with Timbits? Deputy Chair Terry Glover paid a visit to some hardworking Hydro One workers to thank them on behalf of the District of Muskoka who remains in a state of emergency.
OPP across the province has also been posting regular messages to social media thanking volunteers who are doing their best to help impacted areas recover.
Our deepest thanks to all hydro workers across the province – no matter which company they work for – who are working so hard and have sacrificed so much to support our communities. We also thank our first responders, health care workers, municipal employees, plow operators, tree & branch removal services, retail and service industry workers, volunteers and good neighbours for everything you have done – not just during the ice storm but throughout the nasty winter we’ve had. If we missed anyone, know that we appreciate you all. This is a perfect example of how Canadians come together when times are tough. Thank you everyone.
