Chainsaw Sculptor Jake Rhodes

Creating art can be a very delicate process requiring skill and precision. Imagine trying to carve lifelike details into a sculpture when your medium is a chainsaw.

Earlier in August, Burk’s Falls resident Jake Rhodes, owner of Northern Rhodes Artistry In Wood, won first place in the 2023 U.S. Open Chainsaw Sculpture Championship in Wisconsin. Jake competed against artists from around the world to create a stunning piece out of an 8-foot-long pine log in just 28 hours. The 28-year-old also won the Carvers Choice Award.

Jake first began experimenting with chainsaw carving while living in B.C., but his talents really flourished when he returned to Ontario. We were so amazed by Jake’s beautiful work that we have commissioned him to create a sculpture of our 705BLACKFLY.COM logo! We’ll show you that when it’s ready.
