A blast of nasty weather is headed for the 705. A significant ice storm is expected to hit parts of Ontario on Friday.
As of 5:30PM on March 26th, Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement warning of ice accumulation from freezing rain of 5 to 15 millimeters with amounts in excess of 20 millimeters possible over some areas. But it reports the “confidence is highest” for areas between Parry Sound and Kingston to bear the brunt of an extensive stretch of freezing rain.
The weather statement also says, “Local snowfall and ice pellet accumulations of 5 to 15 cm, mainly for central and northeastern Ontario. Possible utility outages. Slippery surfaces and broken tree branches from ice build-up.”

North Bay – Powassan – Mattawa
Orillia – Lagoon City – Washago
Port Carling – Port Severn
Sault Ste. Marie – St. Joseph Island
South River – Burk’s Falls
Temiskaming Shores – Temagami
Town of Parry Sound – Rosseau – Killbear Park
West Nipissing – French River
The storm is expected to begin late Friday and extend until Monday. Please stock up on basic supplies like nonperishable food, water, and medications should there be power outages. Emergency services recommend that you be prepared to be self-sufficient for at least 72 hours.
