Commanda Museum Genealogy Project – Rodney Fry

1930 was a year of change for Canada. The country was beginning to feel the impact of the 1929 Stock Market Crash and The Great Depression. Cairine Wilson became Canada’s first female senator. And Richard Bedford Bennett was Prime Minister.

On May 18th, 1930, Rodney Fry was born in Commanda, Ontario. He would grow up with his parents, three brothers, and 1 sister before marrying June Dobbs when he was just 20 years old. Rodney’s son and his family still live in the Fry family home today.

We are so honoured to have had the opportunity to speak with Rodney as part of the Commanda General Store Museum’s genealogy project. He shared wonderfully humorous and touching stories about growing up in rural Ontario. The full interview will be available on commandamuseum.ca on August 20th.

The museum is looking for more stories from Commanda’s past. Please contact them at MUSEUMINCOMMANDA@GMAIL.COM
