The James Bay OPP is currently investigating a report of a razor blade found in a mini chocolate bar collected during Halloween in Cochrane. The child visited homes from Victoria Ave to 12th Ave on Halloween night, though it is currently unknown where the chocolate bar originated.
We urge all parents and guardians to carefully inspect your child’s Halloween candy for any signs of tampering.
OPP
The Huntsville Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is seeking the public’s assistance in locating an individual after an assault with a weapon in the Town of Huntsville.
On October 30, 2024, at approximately 10:10 p.m., the Huntsville OPP officers responded to a report of an assault involving a knife and possible firearm on King William Street. The victim was transported by EMS to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police believe this was an isolated incident. However, with weapons involved, the OPP urges the public to be aware of their personal safety at all times.
Devon McKey is described as a 34-year-old white male, 6’0″ (183cm), 140lbs (63.5kgs) with short brown hair and brown eyes. The individual is known to frequent the Huntsville area.

OPP
Orillia OPP arrested a person for Arson in the City of Orillia.
On October 31, 2024, at approximately 5:40 pm the Orillia OPP responded to a call from the Orillia Fire Department (OFD) of a fire at a residence on King St. in Orillia.
Officers attended the scene and observed the OFD extinguishing the fire in one of the apartments. The fire was contained to one unit of the apartment building.
Scott Reed, age 39, of Orillia was arrested and charged with the following;
- Arson – Damage to Property
- Common Nuisance – endanger life
The accused was transported to a local hospital for minor injuries related to the fire and remains in police custody pending a bail hearing.

North Bay Police
The North Bay Police Service has arrested a 37-year-old male on assault with a weapon and mischief charges.
The accused in this incident is Corey Daniel Joseph Turcotte, male, age 37, of North Bay, who is charged with:
- One count of Assault with a Weapon
- One count of Mischief Under $5,000
- One count of Fail to Comply with Probation Order
At approximately 10:00 p.m. on October 30, 2024, the North Bay Police Service received a report that the accused was knocking over and damaging garbage bins and ash trays in the 100-block of Main Street East. A bystander in the area, who is the victim in this incident, confronted the accused. The accused threatened to fight the victim at which point the victim disengaged and began to walk away. The accused then threw a glass bottle at the victim, missing him. No physical injuries were reported as a result of the incident. The cost of the damage caused by the accused is estimated to be less than $5,000. Police located the accused in the area at which time he was arrested and charged.
The victim and accused are unknown to one another.
The accused was released on an Undertaking and is set to appear before the court on November 19, 2024.
Sudbury Police
Shortly before 7:30 p.m. on October 31, 2024, officers were dispatched to a grocery store on Notre Dame Avenue in relation to a Weapons complaint. Information provided was that two individuals had approached a man in the self-checkout where one of the individuals shot the man. All the individuals involved fled including the man who was shot. The 31-year-old, man attended the hospital and was treated for serious, non-life-threatening injuries.
When officers arrived on scene, they located one of the individuals believed to be involved in the incident. The individual was taken into custody and charged; however, it was determined that the individual was not the shooter.
Based on information obtained through the investigation, officers attended a residence on Baker Street. Upon arrival at the residence, officers saw an individual matching the description of the shooter outside. The individual immediately fled on foot and was located by K9 Roy and his handler. Officers also recovered the firearm believed to have been used in the incident.
The 17-year-old, young man has been charged with the following offences under the Criminal Code of Canada;
- Attempted Murder
- Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Pointing a Firearm
- Discharging a Firearm with Intent
- Careless Use of a Firearm
- Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Breach of Release Order
- Possession of a Prohibited Firearm
The young man was held in police custody overnight and will attend Bail Court today, November 1, 2024, to answer to the charges. His name cannot be released as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
The second individual, a 22-year-old man has been charged with the following offences under the Criminal Code of Canada;
- Attempted Murder
- Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Obstruct Police
He was held in custody overnight and will attend Bail Court today to answer to the charges. His name cannot be released at this time as the information has not yet been sworn to through the court process.
This was a targeted incident as the individuals involved are believed to be known to each other.
We would like to acknowledge and commend our officers and members of the 9-1-1 Emergency Communications Centre for their quick and coordinated response to a high-risk situation where two dangerous and violent offenders were arrested and charged.

OPP
Wellington County OPP charges Harriston resident under the Dog Owner’s Liability Act.
On October 30, 2024, just after 4:30 p.m., members of the Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), and Wellington North Animal Control, responded to a call of three dogs running at large within the town of Harriston, resulting in members of the public being bit.
As a result of the investigation, a 41-year-old from Harriston was charged under the Dog Owner’s Liability Act with:
- Owner of dog – Fail to prevent dog from biting, attacking a person or domestic animal
The accused is scheduled to appear in the Provincial Offences Court – Guelph, at a later date.
Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health has also been notified as a result of this incident. The Wellington OPP is requesting anyone with information to call 1-888-310-1122. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) continues to actively investigate the murder of a 15-year-old male in Perth, and investigators are urging the public to avoid sharing unverified information.
There has been a significant amount of discussion circulating within the community and on social media about the death on October 25, 2024. While we cannot discuss the evidence or possible motives at this time, we ask for your patience and urge everyone to refrain from spreading unverified and potentially misleading information.
An individual has been charged with second degree murder under section 235(1) of the Criminal Code and remains in custody. The next appearance before the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth is scheduled for December 4, 2024.
The identity of this individual is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
The investigation by members of the Lanark County OPP, Lanark County OPP Crime Unit and OPP Forensic Identification Services is continuing under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.
