EARLY MORNING HOME INVASION LEADS TO ONE YOUTH ARRESTED

Orillia OPP have charged one youth in an early morning home invasion where personal items and vehicles were stolen.
On September 24, 2024, shortly after 2:00 a.m., officers from Orillia OPP were called to a home in the area of Westmount Drive and Arthur Street in the City of Orillia for reports of a home invasion. Police were advised multiple armed suspects had entered the victim’s home. The suspects fled with personal items and the victim’s vehicle, prior to police arrival.
Orillia OPP with assistance from Barrie Police Service, South Simcoe Police Service, York Region Police Service and Toronto Police Service, located the victims stolen vehicle along with a second stolen vehicle headed southbound on Highway 11 near Highway 93, in the Township of Oro-Medonte. Officers successfully and safely brought one suspect vehicle to a stop, arresting the sole occupant, a male driver. The victim’s vehicle was later located abandoned in the City of Toronto.
The investigation is on going with assistance from OPP Forensic Identification Services (FIS) and Orillia OPP Major Crime Unit.
As a result of this investigation, a 17-year-old young person, who’s identity is protected under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act has been charged with the following CC offences:
· Disguise with intent CC 351(2)
· Theft of Motor Vehicle CC 333.1
· Pointing a firearm CC 87 (2 counts)
· Assault with a weapon CC 267(a)
· Break, enter a dwelling CC 348(1)(a)
· Possession of property obtained by Crime Over $5000 CC 354(1)(a)
· Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000 CC 354(1)(a)
· Robbery using Firearm CC 344(1)(a)
The young person has been held in custody.

NORTH BAY MAN ARRESTED FOR BREAK & ENTER

The North Bay Police Service has arrested and charged a 38-year-old male for break and enter and weapons offences.
The accused in this incident is Kyle Marc Joseph Pitre, male, age 38, of North Bay, Ontario, who is charged with:
• One count of Break, Enter a dwelling house with intent to commit indictable offence
• One count of Possession Break In Instruments
• One count of Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
On September 19, 2024, at approximately 11:30 a.m., the accused was observed by a witness to be attempting to open a gate to the rear yard of a residence in the 500-block of McNamara Street, North Bay. The accused was using a claw hammer in the attempt. Officers attended the location and arrested the accused. Searches by police located the claw hammer and a flashlight.
The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing at the North Bay Courthouse.

SAULT STE MARIE OPP CHARGE ATV DRIVER WITH MULTIPLE OFFENCES

On September 21, 2024, at approximately 9:30 p.m., the Sault Ste Marie Detachment of the OPP responded to a call for service at a residence on Sand Bay Road in Goulais River.
While on route, police observed an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) approaching them with two occupants not wearing helmets and the driver holding a bottle of liquor. The operator attempted to evade police by approaching the parked cruiser, then quickly accelerating past. While doing so, the ATV struck the cruiser’s front bumper in attempting to make a righthand turn, thus causing loss of control and flipping into the ditch.
After speaking to the driver, police determined alcohol had been consumed and was therefore arrested.
Orlando Nahwegahbow, 25 years-of-age from Batchewana First Nation was charged with:
Operation while impaired – alcohol
Failure or refusal to comply with demand
Dangerous operation
Failure to stop after accident
Fail to stop for police
Driver-no helmet or improper helmet
Litter highway

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sault Ste Marie on October 21, 2024.
The next day, September 22, 2024, at approximately 1:00 p.m., Orlando Nahwegahbow contacted the Sault Ste Marie OPP detachment regarding a property issue. While on the phone with the call taker, the accused threatened to attend the Sault Ste Marie OPP detachment with a firearm to shoot all the officers there as well as the call taker.
Later that day, the Sault Ste Marie Police Service (SSMPS) and the OPP’s Emergency Response Team (ERT) conducted a traffic stop on Bay Street and the accused was arrested again.
Orlando Nahwegahbow, 25 years-of-age from Batchewana First Nation was charged with: Three counts of Utter Threats – cause death or bodily harm.
The accused appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court on September 23, 2024.

MOTORIST CHARGED IN FATAL COLLISION ON HIGHWAY 17

The OPP has laid charges on the driver involved in a fatal collision.
On August 23, 2024, at approximately 7:00 a.m., the Nipissing West Detachment of the OPP, Fire Services and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 17, west of Verner, West Nipissing.
Two passenger vehicles were involved in the collision, where one person was pronounced deceased at the scene, while another person was transported to the local hospital by EMS. The highway was closed in both directions for just over seven and half hours.
As a result of the investigation, Andre Ayotte, 35-years-of-age, from Verner was arrested and charged with:

Careless driving causing death
Driver – fail to properly wear seat belt
Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was prohibited or restricted weapon
Knowledge of unauthorized possession of weapon
Possession of Firearm or Ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order
The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on October 3, 2024, in North Bay.

SUSPECT CHARGED IN COLLINGWOOD ROBBERY

Officers from the Collingwood and The Blue Mountains OPP arrested a suspect on Sunday night in relation to robbery at a business in downtown Collingwood.

The incident took place on September 22nd, 2024, shortly before 9:00 p.m. where a suspect attended a business in Collingwood, produced a firearm and asked the employee to open the cash register. The employee complied and the suspect eventually left the business with an undisclosed amount of money.

Collingwood/The Blue Mountains OPP officers as well as OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) members and the OPP Canine Unit attended the area and within an hour and a half officers located the suspect who was arrested and transported to detachment.

The employee did not suffer any physical injuries and the investigation has found that the weapon produced by the suspect is believed to be a replica firearm/BB gun.

44-year-old Ryan Puloski of Collingwood has been charged with Robbery Using a Firearm, Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon, Pointing a Firearm and Use a Firearm While Committing an Offence. The accused was held for a virtual bail hearing which took place on September 23rd.

TWO CHARGED AFTER FLIGHT FROM POLICE

North Bay Police has arrested and charged a 24-year-old female and a 25-year-old male with multiple dangerous driving and weapon offences after they fled from police.
The accused in this incident are:
A 24-year-old female from North Bay, who is charged with:
• One count of Dangerous operation
• One count of Flight from peace officer
Rodrigo Martinez, male, age 25, of North Bay, who is charged with:
• Four counts of Uttering Threats
• One count of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
• One count of Possession of Firearm or Ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order
• One count of Pointing a Firearm
• One count of Occupant of Motor Vehicle knowing there was Firearm
• One count of Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
• One count of Kidnapping while using certain firearms
• Two counts of Flight from peace officer
• One count of Firearm – Use while committing offence
• One count of Failure to comply with release order
• Four counts of Fail to Comply with Probation Order
• Four counts of Dangerous operation
• One count of Careless Use of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited device or Ammunition
• One count of Assault Causing Bodily Harm
On September 20, 2024, the two victims attended a local bar. While in the bar, the victims met with the two accused. After the two victims left the bar, they received threatening phone calls from the accused. The two accused stated they would be attending the victims’ residence. Police attempted a traffic stop on the accused’s vehicle, but the accused fled from police. Police pursued the vehicle to the Muskoka area and, with the assistance of the Ontario Provincial Police’s Emergency Response Team and Canine unit, arrested the two accused in the area of Huntsville, Ontario.
Upon the arrest of accused Martinez, warrants relating to an unrelated investigation were also executed. On September 4, 2024, at approximately 4:00 p.m. accused Martinez was observed driving in a dangerous manner in the area of McNamara Street, North Bay. Later that same day, the accused was involved in an altercation with a male victim in the area of Kinsmen Beach and attempted to strike the victim with his vehicle. The accused then exited the vehicle, assaulted and threatened the victim. The accused then fled the scene.
The two accused were held in custody pending a bail hearing at the North Bay Courthouse.
As part of the investigation, at this time the North Bay Police Service will not be releasing the name of the 24-year-old female accused.

BARRIE POLICE ARREST MAN ARMED WITH A KNIFE

On September 23rd at 11:13 a.m., officers from the Barrie Police Service responded to a Drury Lane residence after receiving a report of a male armed with a knife.
Upon arrival, officers learned that an unknown male was observed in a car that did not belong to him, and when three nearby construction workers saw him enter the car, they approached the owner who advised them that he had no business being in her car. The workers kept the male in the car until police arrived and he was then safely taken into custody.
As a result of the investigation that followed, a 45-year-old male, of no fixed address has been charged with Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, Assault with a Weapon (3 counts) and Fail to Comply with a Probation Order. He was held in custody for a bail hearing and has since been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear September 25, by video, with the Ontario Court of Justice located in Barrie.
Investigators with the Barrie Police Service believe that the actions undertaken by these workers likely prevented any additional criminal activity from taking place in this residential neighbourhood and prevented the now accused the opportunity to flee prior to police arrival.
