Dirt In The Skirt Fundraiser

Silver Compass Consulting is teaming up with some dedicated organizers for the upcoming Ladies AAGPBL themed slo-pitch charity tournament in support of the Simcoe County Canadian Mental Health Association. The unique event aims to celebrate women in baseball and pay homage to the iconic movie, A League of Their Own, with all participants donning uniforms inspired by the 1940s era.

What started as a simple idea to bring a few teams together has quickly turned into a massive event with overwhelming support from teams, sponsors, and the local community. Within 24 hours of creating the event page on Facebook, 12 ladies’ teams had eagerly signed up, with a waitlist of 8 teams and counting. The outpouring of support from businesses, players, friends, and families has been heartwarming, with the goal of raising awareness/money for local mental health services and supporting all of our ladies in baseball!

Over 150 women will be at the tournament to showcase their skills and passion for the game in a fun and nostalgic setting. To add to the excitement, a special men’s team – Dottie’s Hotties, will be dressing up in skirts to play against one of the competitive ladies’ teams in a fun exhibition game, highlighting the spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship.

Event co-founder, Sarah Walker, shared her personal connection to the cause, saying, “Our aim is to bring people together, raise awareness about mental health services, and educate our communities on crisis intervention and care. We want to make a difference and provide support to those in need.”

In addition to the thrilling games on the field, the event will feature sliding, pitching, and batting competitions that promise to keep spectators on the edge of their seats. Attendees can look forward to a day filled with games, prizes, bouncy castles, music, vendors, and interactive activities, creating a festive atmosphere for all to enjoy.

“We are thrilled to celebrate women in baseball and honor the trailblazers who paved the way for female athletes,” said Jenny, founder of Silver Compass Consulting. “This tournament is more than just friendly competition; it’s about uniting as a community to support a great cause and create lasting memories. It’s going to be an incredible day!”

Karissa Mobbs, another tournament co-founder, expressed gratitude for the immediate support received from the community, including sponsorships, donations, raffle tickets, and volunteers. The overwhelming feeling of appreciation for the outpouring of support has been truly inspiring.

The tournament will take place at the Barrie Sports Complex, with various entertainment options for all ages. Proceeds from the event will be donated to the Simcoe County CMHA to further support mental health services in the region.
