“The adrenaline is coming down and I’m still shaking,” says Melissa Martin.
It was a surreal experience for Melissa Martin and her children. While returning from a visit with her mother on Canada Day, emergency personnel approached her vehicle and told them to evacuate the area immediately as they searched for armed suspects.
“It was quite terrifying. Like, it put everybody in a state of panic. My kids thought people were going to be running at us out of the bush,” Melissa said.
This came after Highway 11 was closed in both directions between Baseline Road and Southwood Road and between Canning Road and Graham Road. OPP advised the public to shelter in place and avoid the area. Highway 11 has fully reopened and the shelter in place has been lifted.
