A former paramedic from North Bay is one of two people killed after an avalanche near Kaslo, B.C. earlier this month.

Constable Matt Nolet served as a paramedic in North Bay prior to moving west to become a police officer. He and Officer Wade Tittimore were swept down a mountain in a large avalanche while skiing Goat Range Provincial Park in British Columbia on January 9th. Tittemore, 43, died of injuries on the scene and was posthumously promoted to detective. Nolet, 28, suffered severe internal injuries and died January 21st.
Both officers were avid backcountry skiers, had plenty of experience and training and were both carrying probes, beacons and other avalanche safety gear. The day of the avalanche, Nolet was found and rescued by four people who witnessed the slide.
Our condolences to their families and colleagues.
