MP Scott Aitchison On Carney: “Parry Sound-Muskoka can’t afford his weak leadership.”

Scott Aitchison, Member of Parliament for Parry Sound-Muskoka, took to social media this morning to weigh in on new Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. Posting to Facebook and X, Aitchison stated that “Parry Sound-Muskoka can’t afford his weak leadership.”

The posts reference a news article from CTV about an interview with U.S. President Donald Trump that aired on Fox News. When asked about Prime Minister Mark Carney’s recent surge in the polls, Trump replied, “I think it’s easier to deal actually with a Liberal, and maybe they’re going to win, but I don’t really care. It doesn’t matter to me at all.”

The article also states that according to a Nanos Research survey released on Tuesday, Trump and U.S. relations is the top issue of national concern at 26.8 per cent. The survey indicates that the Conservatives are leading by just one point with 35 per cent of federal voting intention, while the Liberals sit at 34 per cent. Many polls early in the year showed the Liberals behind the Conservatives by more than 20 points.

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre responded this morning, saying that Trump, “…knows that I will be a tough negotiator and always put Canada First.”

On March 11th, Aitchison announced the ‘Buy Local Map’ on his website. The map invites businesses and the public to list local producers and support Parry Sound-Muskoka businesses.

“We’ve always had each other’s backs in Parry Sound-Muskoka, through snow, floods, and whatever chaos President Trump throws our way. Stand on guard,” Aitchison wrote.

Also this morning, Poilievre released a video on social media touting Northern Ontario’s Ring of Fire. The video states that “The Liberals did everything in their power to keep these minerals in the ground,” and that the Conservatives would “Green-light all federal permits for the Ring of Fire within six months”. Poilievre said the Ring of Fire is key to “unlocking billions of dollars in resources and taking back control of our economy from the Americans.” Poilievre is hosting a rally in Sudbury tonight.

As the Conservatives continue their campaign, the Liberals continue to gain momentum. An Ipsos Public Affairs poll for Global News found that if a federal election were held tomorrow, the Liberals would secure 42 per cent of decided voter support, compared with 36 per cent for the Conservatives — widening their lead over the Tories by seven points in just three weeks. The story by Global News stated that since 2021, Ipsos polling has shown the Conservatives consistently leading in the polls, outpacing the Liberals.

Mark Carney has been on the road in his first full week as Canada’s new Prime Minister with visits to Paris, London, and Iqaluit, Nunavut to “strengthen two of our closest and longest-standing economic and security partnerships, and to reaffirm Canada’s Arctic security and sovereignty” according to the prime minister’s official website.

However, it seems that Carney is waiting for the right moment to sit down with his U.S. counterpart.

“I look forward to having, at the appropriate time, a discussion between two sovereign nations that is comprehensive and not targeted at one issue. There’s a wide range of issues to be discussed when we do connect,” Carney said.

Canadians continue to wait for the call for a federal election. Experts say that could come within days as the Liberals leverage their resurgence in popularity.
