North Bay Police Issue Warrant For Sudbury Man After Weekend Pursuit

North Bay Police have issued an arrest warrant for a man wanted after a weekend police pursuit.

At about noon on Saturday April 5th, patrol officers were dispatched to the area of the North Bay Mall on Lakeshore Drive, in relation to a male who was possibly using drugs while in the driver’s seat of a vehicle.

When officers arrived, an attempt was made to speak to the driver, at which time he fled the area in the vehicle at a high rate of speed, with no regard for public safety.  Officers pursued the vehicle for a short distance, and the vehicle was last seen heading east on Marshall Avenue. The pursuit was terminated in the interest of public safety.

The suspect was later identified, and an arrest warrant was issued.

43-year-old Clinton Withers of Sudbury is charged in relation to the pursuit that occurred in the 300 block of Lakeshore Drive. Charges include:

  • Operation While Prohibited X 3
  • Dangerous Operation
  • Flight From Police
  • Driving While Suspended X 3 – Highway Traffic Act

At the time of the incident, the accused was operating an older model dark blue Chevrolet Cruze bearing Ontario license plate DEJX771.

Police are asking anyone who may have been in the area of the time to check their dash cam for footage of the incident and to contact them. The accused is known to frequent the Sudbury area.

“This incident demonstrates the accused’s lack of regard for public safety” said Inspector of Operations Jeff Warner “His erratic driving and attempt to evade the police in a heavily populated area put the community and the motoring public at risk”, “I would encourage him to find counsel and turn himself in at his earliest opportunity”

Anyone with information as to the whereabouts of accused, Clinton Withers is asked to contact the North Bay Police Service by dialing 911, or by calling 705-497-5555 and pressing 5 to speak with an officer. PLEASE DO NOT APPROACH THE ACCUSED.  Those wishing to remain anonymous can contact Near North Crime Stoppers by phone at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.nearnorthcrimestoppers.com
