We love a story with a happy ending – especially when it comes to pets!
On April 23rd, North Bay Police issued a news release about a dog who had been rescued in the area of King’s Landing Dock. A witness contacted police after he heard a dog barking and whining from an area under the dock. Officers located the dog but were unable to reach it due to the ice conditions on the lake. The North Bay Fire and Emergency Services were called to assist, and firefighters were able to rescue the dog with the use of a long pole attached to a dog collaring pole. The dog appeared to be in good health and was transported to the Humane Society.
After 705BLACKFLY.COM published the news release and photos on our Facebook page, reader Laura Barry let us know about a post about a missing dog on the Buster’s Page – Helping North Bay Pets Get Home page on Facebook. We were able to contact the owner and confirmed that it was her dog Fendi who had been missing for 6 days. We are happy to report that he was picked up from the North Bay Humane Society the following day and is a very happy little guy!
“Thank you to everyone who shared his post, reached out, and helped look for him,” says Fendi’s owner Ivana. “I’m beyond grateful to the kind soul who rescued him and kept him safe. He’s back where he belongs!”
And what a response from readers thanking North Bay Police and North Bay Fire and Emergency Services. We reached out to them to let them know that Fendi is safe and sound.
“Unfortunately, it is the nature of our business that a number of the calls for service that we respond to result in an unfortunate conclusion for those involved,” said North Bay Deputy Fire Chief Greg Saunders. “It’s the calls like this, where we are able to make a positive impact, that reminds us that being a firefighter matters. We have the ability, through our efforts, to positively impact someone’s life. Not only are we happy that we were able to help the poor dog that was in distress but to learn that the dog was able to reconnect with its loving family, well that simply puts a smile on all of our faces.”
Tracey Truchon is the admin for Buster’s Page – Helping North Bay Pets Get Home. The page is dedicated to bringing lost pets home and has over 12 thousand followers She says the enormous response to Fendi’s rescue reflects how much the community cares about animals.
“Without caring, kind and vigilant people so many pets would never get home. We truly live in a wonderful community,” Tracey says.
We agree! The outpouring of concern for Fendi’s wellbeing from our readers is a perfect example of what makes our community so fantastic. We’d like to thank everyone involved in rescuing Fendi:
