Nova Scotia Musicians Hosting Fundraiser For OUTLoud North Bay

A great event is coming up for one of our favourite organizations. On Monday November 17th at Chippewa Secondary School in North Bay, legendary Nova Scotia singer-songwriter Joel Plaskett will perform with special guest Ian Sherwood. All proceeds go to support OUTLoud North Bay.

Joel has been captivating audiences across Canada for decades. Starting his musical journey in small-town Nova Scotia, he quickly made a name for himself in the Halifax-

Dartmouth music scene. With success from his band Thrush Hermit and extensive tours with The Emergency, Joel has graced iconic stages like Toronto’s Massey Hall, the National Arts Centre in Ottawa, and The Capitol Centre in North Bay. He’s shared the stage with The Tragically Hip and was handpicked by Paul McCartney to open for his first-ever Atlantic Canada performance. Known for his creativity and constant reinvention, Joel’s latest album, “One Real Reveal”, is a stripped-down showcase of his exceptional song writing and acoustic guitar skills.

Ian Sherwood, a multi-award-winning singer-songwriter and actor from Nova Scotia, brings a unique blend of guitar, saxophone, and rich vocals that blur the lines between folk and pop. His recent album, “Broken Little Heart”, has been making waves in the music community. Ian is also hosting special events in North Bay leading up to the concert.

On Saturday, November 15th, Ian and East Coaster Studios will host an exclusive song writing workshop at Trinity United Church from 12:30 P.M. to 4:30 P.M. With only a few spots left, this is a rare opportunity to learn from one of Nova Scotia’s best. The workshop registration is $50 for adults and $40 for students, which includes admission to Ian’s intimate solo performance that evening at 6:30 P.M. The evening show ticket alone is $20.

On Monday, November 17th, Ian will also present a special session for students at Chippewa Secondary School, sharing songs and stories about his life as a performer in music and theatre.

The OUTLoud charity event on November 17th is part of the exciting 2025/2026 East Coaster Studios Presents concert series, titled “East to West”, and features some of Canada’s most iconic musicians from coast to coast.

OUTLoud North Bay provides support services such as mental health workshops, harm reduction, suicide prevention, mental health wellbeing, educational supports, life skills programming, tutoring, and job ready and employment opportunities. Don’t miss the final show of 2025 on December 6th, when Jud Gunning makes his North Bay debut at The Block Public House. Jud will be joined by local guitar player and songwriter Connor Carruthers, son of East Coaster Studios founder Jamie Carruthers.

Looking ahead to 2026, the series will feature performances by David Francey, Valdy, and Dave Gunning. Tickets for all East Coaster Studios shows are available now on TicketScene.
