Putting Out Fires – The Demands On First Responders

In an ongoing series, 705BLACKFLY.COM is taking an in-depth look at the challenges that first responders face and the personal sacrifices they make to protect the public.

We start with the McMurrich – Monteith fire department which is almost completely volunteer-based. Chief John Ross told us that the number of calls the department is responding to is up 54% in 2023. We take a look at the intense physical and mental toll on the volunteers plus the potential risk to public safety.

Our sincere thanks to Chief Ross for this very candid interview and for his commitment to both his team and the community.
