RVH Requiring Masking In Treatment Areas

Beginning today (September 12th) the Royal Victoria Hospital once again requires masking in all treatment areas including:

  • Patient rooms
  • Waiting rooms in the Cancer Centre, Dialysis Clinic, and Emergency Department
  • When care is being provided in an ambulatory or inpatient setting

Masks will remain optional but recommended, in areas such as hallways, administrative spaces, meeting rooms, and public areas like the cafeteria. All visitors should continue to self-screen upon arriving at RVH.  If they have any symptoms or are unwell should not proceed any further and return once they are well. Patients requiring care, and who are unwell, should inform their care team upon arrival.

The decision comes as the fall season approaches and concerns mount over the potential increase in respiratory illnesses like influenza, (RSV) respiratory syncytial virus, and COVID-19.

Patients attending an after-hour appointment at RVH should use the Atrium entrance. For surgery patients, one support person per patient is permitted, operating room and endoscopy patients must use the Atrium entrance for drop off and pick up. The Simcoe Entrance will be utilized by patients who have appointments in the Pre-Surgery Treatment Clinic.

There are currently no visitors allowed in RVH’s Transitional Care Unit due to an outbreak of Covid-19. However, Essential Care Providers are allowed.
