Santa Charity Ski Show Supporting The Burks Falls Food Bank

The 7th Annual Santa Claus Charity Waterski Show returns to Kearney on November 4th in support of the Burk’s Falls Food Bank. The goal this year is to raise over $7,000 to support the Burk’s Falls and District Food Bank which is in desperate need of donations. Cash donations, donations via e-Transfer to santaskishow@gmail.com, or non-perishable food items are required as admission to the show.

Food bank usage has hit an all-time high in Canada and experts warn that it will get worse. Food Banks Canada, a national charitable organization, released its Hunger Count 2023 study on October 25th. The data was collected from food banks across Canada, and this year’s Hunger Count, as well as other studies, show more and more Canadians are “struggling to pay for basic expenses, and that levels of food insecurity are rising dramatically.” The report also revealed that one-third of food bank clients are children. Some food banks are reporting that some clients haven’t eaten for days, or seniors who haven’t eaten produce in months due to the cost of food. Nearly two million Canadians visited food banks in the month of March, 32 percent more than the same month the year before, and a 78 percent increase compared with March 2019.

We cannot let this continue in our communities. We’re all facing tough times due to inflation, the high cost of housing, and soaring food costs, but we must remember that some people have little or nothing on their table. 705BLACKFLY.COM urges everyone to contribute what they can to their local food bank. Every little bit helps feed someone in need.

We spoke with event organizer Scott Waites about why the Santa Claus Charity Ski Show brings out the spirit of the community. Please watch our video.
