What a week it’s been! As we all cope with the dumping of snow – especially in Gravenhurst and Bracebridge – we’ve been reading great stories of neighbours helping neighbours. 705BLACKFLY.COM asked you to tell us who helped YOU out during the storm. Here are the responses we received.
Janine Adams
I’d like to give a shout out to Chris and Hilary, as well as a young woman called Joanne, and a young man whose last name is Langtree. Between Saturday and today, these young people provided much needed assistance to me with my driveway. I’m 73 and this kind of work is not so easy as it used to be, so I am very grateful to these four good hearted young people who were of such great help to me and refused any offer of payment. Thank you to all of you for your incredible kindness.

Roberta Snoddon and her husband Shawn have taken my daughter, son and I into their home since Saturday night. They live not too far from us and we walked there at 8pm Saturday after the 7:30 hydro restoration didn’t occur.
We live on HWY 169 and are still without power. They also helped us dig my car out with my amazing neighbour Joel William Robinson.
I do not know how we would have coped without them. My kids are so happy being able to play with their kids even though it’s been very stressful. Having a warm place that is a loving home is everything. I am forever grateful for their kindness.

Oriole Crescent has some really amazing neighbors who are always ready to lend a hand or a beverage! From helping out with snow removal, fixing snowblowers or generators to towing people out when needed. Hands down the best neighborhood I know

I had 2 young men take me the last 1/2 mile from highway 11 to my house on Hewitt St by snowmobile. Such kind young men.

I have the best neighbours ever! Many thanks to Steve Hart, Ben for working so hard to clear the driveway, Shawn’s friend with the front end loader, Anthony Adams who did constant shoveling around the generator and made an escape route, Andrew for the hot water….I am forever grateful. Big hero hugs to you all.

Also to Hydro One and Elexicon, Gravenhurst Fire Department and OPP, District of Muskoka, 705 Roadside Services and all other towing companies for their hard efforts working tirelessly during this snowmageddon! You guys are amazing!

I got home to Muskoka Falls from Florida on Thursday. Talk about bad timing! Within 24 hours I had no power, which included no heat or water, and the only thing I could use my cell for was calling, although that was spotty. No texting. No data. Very humbling! My car was stuck in the driveway, totally snowed in. My amazing neighbours, although not right next door, came to my rescue and brought me a hot dinner 2 nights in a row, plowed me out and made it clear that they were there for me. They checked in day and night. I was stubborn and decided to stick it out in my house. While my husband remained in FLA sipping drinks by the pool I was playing pioneer woman! My power was restored on Monday morning. I know some people had it much worse than me, but the hospitality of my neighbours was amazing. Thanks to everyone and stay safe. More snow on the way

We have great neighbours. We typically help each other. We have lived next to them for 12+ years. Even some new neighbours. This past weekend with all of the heavy snow our first priority was us and our kids and home. Once we finished our driveway we helped out. 3 of our neighbours offered to help some friends around town too (if we could get to them). Checked up on some friends kids to make sure they were ok. I love Gravenhurst and how we all feel like family to one another.

I want to thank my Toronto Fireman neighbor. We got stopped on highway 11 when they closed. Long story short we managed to get to mom’s place. He not only kept us updated but plowed out half our driveway. My husband is 64 with heart issues and I am 61. Nathaniel was our hero. We are so blessed to have a wonderful neighbor
