‘Wait Like A Seed” isn’t just a lesson about ecosystem life cycles. It’s also a life lesson about the importance of feeling connected to the life around us.
Written by Parry Sound author and gardening podcaster Erin Alladin, ‘Wait Like A Seed’ focuses on the fascinating connection between milkweed and monarch butterflies.
“In the book we have a couple of children watching monarchs lay eggs on the milkweed plant and the eggs hatch into caterpillars and the caterpillars pupate and become butterflies themselves,” Erin says. “And so, we have two life cycles going on.”
The book also includes nine full-colour pages of fascinating facts detailing the stages of milkweed and monarch life cycles, and the monarch butterfly’s remarkable migration cycle. It includes a resource list for those who want to grow their own milkweed and support monarchs, which are a species of special concern in Ontario and are endangered elsewhere.
Erin is also the co-host of the gardening podcast ‘Plants Always Win’, which launched in 2024 to be a voice for home gardeners in Ontario. Born in Sault Ste. Marie and raised in North Bay and Corbeil, Erin earned her BA in English from Nipissing University, then went on to work in the Canadian publishing industry for more than a decade. Today Erin works as a freelance writer and editor near Parry Sound.
‘Wait Like a Seed’ is published by Pajama Press and is available on Amazon.
