A concerned member of the community who wishes to remain anonymous has reached out to us about another incident of vandalism at Monck Public School in Bracebridge. According to our source, a shed painted in rainbow colours was defaced with swastikas. OPP have confirmed with us that a phone number was also painted on the shed.
A letter to parents from the school was sent out last week and was provided to us by our source. It states, “The messages written were racist, antisemitic, and homophobic. Graffiti vandalism is illegal, disrespectful, and in this case, hurtful and harmful to students, staff, and wider community. It continues, “At Monck, we value and honour all individuals and take great pride in ensuring our school is safe and caring at all times. It is important that all students respect each other’s individuality.”
The same shed was vandalized twice last year after students painted a mural in rainbow colours. In one case, “Please leave the children alone” was painted on the side. The shed has now been painted gray.
We have reached out to the Trillium Lakelands District School Board, and are waiting for an official statement from the OPP. We will provide updated information as soon as possible. If you have any information about this investigation please contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
