MNR Responds To Increased Bear Activity In Huntsville

On September 25th, Huntsville’s general committee viewed a presentation about bear safety by Micheline Mamone, provincial coordinator of human-wildlife interactions for the Ministry of Natural Resources. This comes after a number of black bear sightings in the Huntsville area – including multiple sightings at a school.

Reports of bear sightings in the Huntsville area are believed to be higher this year due to lower availability of natural food sources for bears in the wild. The information in the attached video of the MNR’s presentation is courtesy of Huntsville’s YouTube channel. We have supplemented their graphics with additional visuals. We encourage you to watch the 15-minute video and take the time to learn how to prevent bear encounters, mitigate attractants such as garbage and fruit trees, keep dogs safe during bear season, and other important Bear Wise safety information.

For more information on how to prevent and report bear encounters, please visit the province’s Bear Wise webpage.
