Holiday Fire Hazards

Many of us are about to start decorating our homes and businesses for the holidays, so it’s time to drag the tree, lights and bulbs out of storage. It’s an exciting time of the year, but fires are quite common during the holiday season. There are approximately 200 fires involving Christmas trees and lighting across Canada every year. During the 2020-21 winter season, at least five people were killed in Ontario by dry Christmas trees that caught fire. Kearney Fire and Emergency Services are reminding everyone to check their decorations for fire hazards before putting them up.

Kearney firefighters have a busy few weeks ahead of them. On Saturday November 30th and Wednesday December 4th, they’ll be collecting food donations for the Burk’s Falls & District Food Bank. On December 7th, the firehall will be open for Kearney Fire’s Christmas Wonderland – and it’s going to be awesome!.
