Family Conducting Search With Trained Canines For Missing Muskoka Man

Imagine not knowing where your child is for over a year. That is the nightmare that Della Kay has been living with since 2024. 705BLACKFLY.COM spoke with her at her home in Saskatchewan via telephone.

“I listen to his voicemails every day just to hear his voice,” says Della.

Della’s son, 35-year-old Chance Kay, was last seen on March 29th, 2024, at the Skyways Hotel located on Highway 11 in Gravenhurst. The family says that Kay was there to see a friend but ran from the motel for an unknown reason. He was last seen near Winhara Road. His car was found abandoned at the motel.

Chance’s family and friends along with members of the nonprofit organization Ontario Search and Recovery Canines will be conducting a search on Saturday August 23rd in Gravenhurst. The OSARC assists agencies and families in the recovery of missing persons.

“It will break Della’s heart,” said Nicole Griffiths, a volunteer who has led the campaign to conduct more searches for Chance. “It’s going to be so hard for his mother and family.”

At the time of Kay’s disappearance, OPP officers with the Central Region Emergency Response Team, the K9 unit, and the Aviation team aided in the search. His disappearance is still being investigated.

“The Chance Kay missing person investigation is an open and active case, the Muskoka Crime Unit is following up with any and all new information,” said OPP Constable Samantha Bigley in an email to 705BLACKFLY.COM. “They are aware that the family has made arrangements to have their own searches done and welcome that. As always, we appeal to the public to please come forward with any information.”

Della is flying in from Saskatchewan for the search. Both she and Nicole say they just want to find Chance. While there is no hard evidence at this time, they both admit that they are bracing themselves for the worst.

“I think he met with foul play,” Nicole says.

“I’m hopeful that I do find him so that I can bring him home and lay him where he should be,” Della told us, her voice breaking.

Chance Kay is described as five feet eight inches tall with a slim build, long auburn hair, brown eyes, tattoos, including some on his face. He was last seen wearing a black Adidas hoodie and green track pants.

Anyone with information is asked to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122. If you wish to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or submit a tip online.
