We’ve been seeing social media posts this morning asking if people had felt some shaking during thr night. There’s a good reason for that – a minor earthquake shook parts of Ontario late Tuesday night. It was also confirmed by Ontario’s Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR).
Just before 11 p.m. ET, Earthquakes Canada confirmed a 3.7 magnitude quake struck Ramara, located 23 km east of Orillia and about 100 km north of Toronto. The quake occurred at a depth of 5 kilometres.
Over 2,300 residents reported feeling it, from Toronto and Hamilton to Belleville, Kingston, and as far east as Ottawa. No damage has been reported, and none is expected, Earthquakes Canada said.
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) measured the earthquake at a 4.1 magnitude.
