Three teens, ages 15, 16, and 17, are facing multiple charges in connection with an armed robbery reported at Maple Ridge Secondary School in Barrie. Their identities are protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
Barrie Police responded to the incident shortly after 9:30 a.m. on Monday February 2nd. The school was placed into lockdown as officers conducted an immediate investigation. The three accused individuals were arrested at the scene. During the investigation, officers recovered a handgun.
Two of the males are charged with:
Robbery using Firearm (Restricted or Prohibited)
Firearm – Use while committing offence
Pointing a Firearm
Careless Use of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited device or Ammunition
Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
Carrying concealed weapon
Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Weapon at Unauthorized Place
Possession of prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition
Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition
The third male is charged with:
Possession of prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition
Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition
A heavy police presence remained at the school which was placed in a hold and secure status for several hours to allow officers to conduct a thorough search of the premises for additional evidence. Students were safely dismissed at their regular time without incident.
