Sudbury Police Charge Woman In Death Of 6-Year-Old Girl

A Sudbury woman is facing multiple charges after a vehicle accident that killed a 6-year-old girl.

Just before 3:30 p.m. on May 19, 2026, Greater Sudbury Police Service officers responded to a serious collision involving a pedestrian in the area of 129 Second Avenue. Emergency personnel immediately initiated CPR and other life-saving measures at the scene. A 6-year-old girl was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced deceased.

At the time of the incident, police confirmed that the child had safely exited a school bus on private property within a residential parking area. The driver involved in the collision remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

As a result of the investigation, the Integrated Traffic Safety Unit (ITSU) have charged a 58-year-old woman from Greater Sudbury with the following offences under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) and Cannabis Control Act;

  • Careless driving causing death HTA
  • Drive vehicle with cannabis readily available Cannabis Control Act

She will appear in court on August 4, 2026. Her name cannot be released at this time as the information has not yet been sworn to through the court process.
